TPC Sawgrass - Stadium Course

Today was the first of our back to back rounds on the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass.

This course is the home of the Players Championship, played in May.  The course is in preparation for this event, and will close later this week to really get ready.

This shot is from the left hand side of the par 4 first hole.

One of the features of a Pete Dye course is the wooden reinforcements around the lakes and ponds.  This is a shot from behind the par 4 fourth.

As you weave around the front nine of the course, there are some stands and marquees in place already for the Players Championship.

Unfortunately the clubhouse here is very small, hardly big enough to fit our group!

Some of the marquee construction near the 10th tee.

Last year's Players Championship was one of the most exciting.  Rickie Fowler won in a playoff.  Birdieing the island green 17th twice in the playoff to win.

Another example of Dye's framing of the water hazards, this time at the back of the par five 11th.

This is the stunning par three 13th hole.  Don't go left!

This hole was integral in Rickie Fowler's impressive finish last year.  After birdieing the 15th, he eagled this par five, then birdied the last two to make the playoff.

The approach into 16, with some of the massive hospitality suites behind.

This was my approach into 16, trying to emulate Rickie's finish.  I missed this 4 footer, and it all went pear shaped from there.

Our group, myself, Wendy, Geoffrey and Elizabeth Knight, ready to attack the island green.

This is the approach point to the green, a small path from the rear.  Marilyn Cookes nearly scored a hole in one here today.  That would have been a great result, however Marilyn settled for the birdie.

The view from behind the par 4 eighteenth.  A strong finish to a very impressive course.

Jim Angus won the men's section today, and Wendy Pullar claimed the women's prize.
A chance for redemption for the rest of us presents itself tomorrow, as we replay this fine course.
Maybe we will all have better results on that island green!
